NZ Silver Medal MP3s on Roddy Macleod’s Site

May 29, 2008

I’m presently compiling a list of web resources available to pipers looking for resources on the NZ 2009 list tunes. I’ll post all of the links soon, but in the meantime the following silver medal tunes are available on Roddy McLeod’s site. Click here to access:

  • Alasdair Dearg Macdonell of Glengarry, Lament for.
  • Flame of Wrath for Patrick Coagach, A.
  • Little Spree, The.
  • Massacre of Glencoe, The.

Battlefield Band: Whangarei Mon 2 June, Chch Fri 5 June

May 29, 2008

I’m told that, in addition to playing in Chch next Friday, they are also playing in Whangarei on Monday. I love this band live, although they were put into the very worst possible venue when I saw them in Wellington last year. The Whangarei and Christchurch venues are good so maybe it’s just the Wellington promoters?

Check out battlefieldband.co.uk for tour dates and info.

Eade and Easton: Colin Craig Claidhmor Winners

May 25, 2008

Stuart Easton & Brendon Eade Win at the Colin Craig

May 24, 2008

Stuart Easton won the Targe for Piobaireachd, playing Scarce of Fishing with Brendon Eade second playing the Unjust Incarceration. Brendon won the Colin Craig Claidhmor (MSR, Hornpipe & Jig) with Stuart Easton second. A fantastic day at the Celtic Inn I’m told (I had to be at a work team building event - bugger).

The judges were Martin Frewen and Richard Hawke, which means that they will be competitors next year.

Every competitor had to play a New Zealand composed tune in the light music, which added a nice touch.

Colin Craig Claidhmor Competition: Saturday 24 May Celtic Inn

May 10, 2008
For the best of piping in the most convivial location, this is a must. Featuring Brendon Eade, Stuart Easton, Tom Glover, Logan Greer, Jamie Hawke, Marion Horsburgh, George Mason & Iain Robertson. Judged by last year’s winners Richard Hawke and Martin Frewen. The Piobaireachd starts at 9am and the light music at 1pm. This year’s event has extra poignancy given that the famous composer Colin Craig died last year. Click here for details.

BBC Pipeline features Greg Wilson

May 5, 2008

Well worth a listen any time, but this week’s Pipeline features Greg Wilson. It also has performances of Munro’s Salute and Sir Ewen Cameron of Lochiel’s Salute from Breton piper Patrick Molard, some rip snorting playing from Stuart Liddell and other fantastic music. IMHO one of the more interesting programmes. Click here to listen.
