The Brown Cup (Open Light Music) and the Everest Memorial Open Piobaireachd will be held on Saturday, June 13 2009 at the Royal New Zealand Police College, Papakowhai, Porirua. The Judging panel for both events will be senior club members and two of New Zealand’s most eminent judges: Mr John Hanning and Iain Hines of Wellington.
For the first time in the Clubs history, they will be offering prize money for both events as follows:
1st $150, 2nd $100, 3rd $75 & 4th $ 50. The fourth prize will be awarded only if there are at least 8 competitors.
The Everest Memorial and Brown Cup competition has an entry fee of $8 and is open to all financial club members. Anyone interested in competing who is not already a financial member of the Club can join the club for $15. The Everest Memorial Piobaireachd competition commemorates Past President Bob Everest. Competitors will be required to submit three tunes of their own choice one of which will be selected by the judges to play. This competition will commence at 10.30am. The Brown Cup competition The Brown Cup was donated by former Club Patron WG Brown and requires competitors to play a march, strathspey and reel, jig and hornpipe and a slow air of their own choice with a maximum of two tuning breaks. The Strathspey and Reel will be judged as a separate event within the Brown Cup and the winner will receive the Neil and Alan McPhee Memorial Tray and a bottle of Glenfiddich Single malt.
