New Donald Sargent Jig: The Dog & the Magpie

Donald Sargent has sent me a new Jig called the Dog & the Magpie (left is the first part). It’s nice and, like most of his tunes, it has an amusing story to go with it:

Son Ewan’s family has a young Kelpie pup and each time it is taken for exercise a battle ensues between the pup and a magpie which lives in nearby trees. The maggie dive bombs the pup which tries to grab it as it goes past. If the pup needs a spell it flops on the ground and the magpie lands and waits about 10 metres away. When the pup has its second wind it jumps up and rushes at the magpie which takes to the air and the circus starts all over again! Hopefully this merry tune captures the spirit of the battle.

Wellington Pipers Club: City of Wellington Cup: 13 October 2011

The Club will be running it’s City of Wellington Cup competition at the next club night in October. The Cup was donated to the Club by the legendary Pipe Major of the City of Wellington Pipe Band Allan Guild for competition to encourage junior players and is open to any non A grade player who has not won the event before. The event consists of a slow march and march and will commence at 7.00pm at the City of Wellington Pipe Band Hall Hansen Street Newtown judged by Gary Watt on Thursday October 13th. There is no entry fee.

Our normal club night will follow the competition and will feature performances by some of the leading players of the New Zealand Police Pipe Band.

Again a reminder to put the Kontiki Tangle and Brendon Eade recital at the November club night in your diaries. Tickets will be available at the October club night.
