Robert Wallace’s Commentray of Winnie Macleod’s Funeral
Rob Wallace rightly observes that Donald MacLeod had a big influence on New Zealand Pipers. I recall having a lesson from him when I was young and, in spite of not realsiing how influencial he was, being taken with his ability to empathise.
Just back from Winnie MacLeod’s funeral. Very large turnout at Craigton Crematorium in Glasgow. Piping was represented by John Wilson and his wife Connie, Murray and Patricia Henderson, Andrew and Isabel Wright, Roddy MacLeod and Eddie Swindle and Gordon Cosh from the Glasgow Highland Club. It was particularly respectful of Murray and Pat to travel down from Kirriemuir and pipers in New Zealand will be pleased to know that they were well represented. Winnie’s husband Donald did so much for so many pipers in NZ. Donald Bain, Roy Gunn and Stuart Finlayson spring immediately to mind, and there were many others.
